"My parents' 30th wedding anniversary is coming up in early May. Obviously, this is a big one, and I would like to give them something special without spending a lot of money. They were planning a trip to the beach, but have cancelled it because, in this economy, they just don't have the $. I would have to ship the gift, as they live in NC and I am in PA. I know that they enjoy wine, but I'm not sure if shipping wine is a possibility. They also already have plenty of drinkware. My mom enjoys photography, gardening, nature, she also likes to cook. My dad is a pretty simple guy, he works, is very handy, and spends a lot of time out in the yard with my mom. Any ideas?"

Because you are shipping the gift, I do not recommend sending and packing alcoholic bev's on your own, although I do love the themed Gift Baskets on the Gift Tree website A LOT! Let the pro's ship and pack the stuff...they do a really good job :) But you could also send something more personal to compliment it...perhaps a favorite romantic CD or a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant. If they are both into gardening and the outdoors, you could also consider sending them tree to plant to commemorate the occasion. Gift Tree has those, too! Anyone else???
Here's a great suggestion from Jennifer Antkowiak:
"how 'bout a pretty jar filled with 30 statements, stories, or memories from friends or family about moments in their relationship? it's also inexpensive to put it into "book" form and have it bound at kinkos or other office print shop. ive done this before, and added pictures and poems, too. leave two blank spaces (if doing a book) or pieces of paper (if doing a jar) for the couple to fill out and share, too!"
Another suggestion from my friend Marsha...
"My husband and I are in our 50's and living a much simpler life now. We too enjoy the outdoors and particularly, our porch swing and canopy swing. If that is too expensive, we got a gift of the DVD movie Fireproof, with some microwave popcorn, peanut M & M's (which my husband likes to add to the popcorn while it is hot, steamy, andfresh from the mic), and a bottle of sparkling cider from our kids for our last anniversary. We loved it! There are also wineries with online stores that do ship wine. And last but not least; I saw a small wagon with a tractor seat that swivels on TV; it was perfect for yardwork or detailing the car. It even had a compartment underneath to put gardening tools or whatever. I may hint to my family that I would like to have that for Mother's Day."
How about something like matching bathrobes with their monogram and "30" in it?
I wanted to thank you all for your wonderful comments. I am still searching for that "perfect" gift, but your ideas have helped to lead me in the right direction. I better get moving, time is ticking!!
